    Speaker Bumper - Part # 3710206

This rubber bumper is for installation of the kick panel speakers for option U69. '69 AIM pg. 436, U69-A4. Unfortunately both are missing from my car so I have no example of the size and shape of this bumper. I could use help in the following form:

    - a picture of an original next to a ruler or tape measure
    - the current replace part number
    - other locations this same part number was used in '69

Any and/or all of the above would really be helpful.

    Thanx

I cannot find that GM #3710206 was EVER available in SERVICE so I presume it was a PRODUCTION-only part. I can find no part that GM ever cataloged in SERVICE for the application. In addition, I do not recall this part being present when I had the speakers in my 1969 out. It's possible it was there and I missed it, but I just don't recall seeing it.

Hi Floyd, When I put original style speakers in my car a couple of years ago I don't remember seeing those bumpers. Attached is a photo of the passenger side speaker area. Perhaps the bumpers were a 1968 only thing and AIM sheet U69 A3 was never changed for 1969 ?

My 68 didn't have the bumpers either. I got replacements from Corvette Central, I think, and put them in place.

It's late and I have to leave for Christmas at my Daughter's house first thing in the morning. When I return I'll post pictures. My car has the holes where the bumpers would be inserted.

If your car has the holes but no bumpers, I fully expect that no bumpers were ever originally installed. I just can't see any way that these sort of bumpers would deteriorate or fall out over time. Of course, it might not be a bad idea to install them if you can find reproductions. There must have been some design purpose for them.

              Joe,

Based on the AIM diagram I can see how they would have prevented the speaker from rattling. There are no bolts or screws to secure the top half of the speaker. Only the lower half is riveted to a bracket that is then secured to the chassis by two screws. I don't think the fact that they are missing from my car means much - one way or the other. The original speakers are long gone. An after-market radio and speakers were installed circa 1980 and several modifications were made, such as drilling holes in the kick panels and securing the after-market speakers directly to the kick panel (i.e. bubba radio installation). It is possible that the bumpers were yanked out and discarded. However, I see no evidence (e.g. rubber residue, rust from water accumulation, etc.) that they were ever installed.

              Thanx,
