1956 to 1962 NOS engine lift bracket???

I have never heard of or seen one of these and think it is BS.

    Am I wrong?

I would have to agree with you. Never saw one when I was working at a Chevy dealership in the 60's and 70's. Now marine big blocks had lifting rings left on them, but seems pretty strange that if all 56-62 Corvettes had this is the first one in captivity!

I have seen a few cars with engines that have never been removed, including my '57, and I never saw one of these. Anyone have some pics. of engine drop and engine inventory for '56-62? This particular piece has no patina for being old. It looks to be freshly minted.

          Steve,
Pictures of a engine drop would answer the question.
Someone out there I'm sure has one.

Even if we had a picture of the engine drop, and it was on the engine at that time, the cars did not leave the St. Louis plant with that on the engine.

My buddy reminded me today that the assembly plant used a tool on a chain hoist that lifted the engine by reaching under the exhaust manifolds with a fixture/tool to lift the engine. I sort of remember seeing a picture but have no clue where I saw it.
It might have been in one of John Hinckleys presentations.

There's a picture in the 56-57 section of Nolan Adam's book, page 126, of an engine drop. You can't see the back side, but they are using a fixture that is using the exhaust manifolds as the lift points.

The auction item is pure BS - the engine lifting brackets didn't appear in production until 1968 (my Production Engineering Group at the Chevrolet Pilot Line developed the brackets for the engine plants and the engine dress line hooks that engaged them for the assembly plants). Photo below shows how many engine hooks a multi-car-line assembly plant needed in 1967 (left side of photo) and how many hooks they needed in 1968 (right side of photo).

I don't see how that little bracket can fasten to anything - let alone lift an engine. -Dan-

Thanks for the info. John. It seems that online auction sites have brought out many "nonexistant" parts. Dan, the engine lift brackets on my '77 and '78 that I ordered new are about that size and were on the engines, an L-82 and an L-48, when painted blue. You are right, they aren't that big.

                        Steve-----

This bracket did exist, it just didn't exist for any C1 or C2 as John described. It was first used for 1968 small blocks and I believe was of GM #3923243. It was once even available in SERVICE but was discontinued without supercession in July, 1998.

By the way, there is a USED bracket on eBay which is described as a GM #3923243 in the item description. That is an INCORRECT description as to part number. The bracket pictured in that item was used on L1970-82 small blocks for the FRONT lift bracket.
