Local governments, often times through the Economic Development Corporations and/or Industrial Commissions, may provide incentives as Paul points out, also including employee count incentives. The local Economic Development Corporation, of which I am chairman of the board and president, applies incentives to both existing and new companies depending upon their requests and the board approval. It amazes me the number of businesses who do not apply for incentives. If the community is a recognized Main Street community there is also assistance with signage, paint, even awnings, etc. State Dept. of Agriculture, transportation and other depts. also offer financial incentives.
I am happy to see more jobs and more auto sales. I was at our "local" Chevy/Cadillac dealer yesterday, nearly 30 miles from our house. The next dealership is about 70 miles away. They just remolded and brightened up the place. I was surprised to see some vintage Chevy posters up, including a Panama Yellow '58 Corvette and a silver '63 coupe.- Top

Re: Camaro now to be made in America
I miss the days of the new model unveiling at the dealerships. One of my fondest memories as a young teenager was visiting our local Chevy dealer in October of 1970 to see the releases of the new 1971 models. Oddly that was the beginning of the end for classic Detroit muscle. Big block Corvettes, SS Camaros & Chevelles, they were all there. It seems like all teenagers now care about is when the next iPhone or XBox is released.
That's great news about the Camaro!

Right Mike. It used to be fun to try to look through the paper covered windows to see the new cars, especially performance models. Even before that when I would see a truck load of cars with car covers on them head for our local GM dealer I would make a point to hop on my bike (painted Roman Red with Ermine White wheels and fender scallops at the dealership) and travel the 1 1/2 blocks and watch them unload and then pull them into the new car prep shed or stored in a quanset until ready for prep. I was fortunate in that our next door neighbor worked in new car prep and he would tell me if anything good was in. 'Usually only a couple of Corvettes a year but when they came in it was exciting. Odd now that when a truck load of new cars passes by most people don't even look. It used to be a big event with a celebration and unveiling that the town looked forward to. Now just a few of us seem to wet our pants when we get that first glimpse.- Top

That's a good question. But since Michigan is now a right to work state, maybe only the Canadian one did as it was moved from Canada?Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

No union approved any contract - the CAW didn't know anything about it until GM announced the move yesterday.- Top
