    compressing the front springs on a c-1

    over the years, i've used snap-on spring compressors and all-thread thru the shock mount holes to compress the a-arms/springs in the c-1's i've restored. this evening i think i hit on an easier method to do the job; heavy duty ratchet straps around the upper and lower a-arms. worked like a champ. mike

    Hello Mike;
    Used snap-on and threaded rod style also on C2s as you describe.
    Not sure what your describing with the ratchet straps.
    Coil springs are the most DANGEROUS job in my opinion. Not critiquing your method, just trying to imagine how it works.
    Think I saw a picture of a threaded rod that had gone into a garage ceiling somewhere. Can't locate same right now.

      Mike,
      I have used a threaded 7/16"rod many times and it works fine.
      But, the last time I followed the ST12 and it was very simple:
      Remove shocks.
      Place jack stands under the frame side rails and lower onto jack stands.
      Place jack under inner control arm shaft and jack up.
      Remove inner control bracket nuts, washers and bolts.
      Slowly lower jack and remove the spring from the lower control arm..
      Assemble in reverse order.
      Alignment of the bolt holes can be tricky but doable.

        I install very long bolts before raising the inner shaft into position. They act as guides to line up the bolt holes.
