I bought repo's from Corvette central and installed them, Speedo and tach cable both screech and the are pegged. I wrote on this before and someone said to loosen and see if that helps and it didn't. Checked to see if maybe they were extending into the gauge to far and they are the same as the old ones. I re-installed the old speedo cable and it works fine, the only difference is the rubber outside which I can live with. The tack cable end on the original was broken so I have no way to check it. I thought about swithing the cores but the old cable is 70" long and the repo is 60" which is what it should be, Any ideas

Re: 1958 tach/speedo cable
The universal repair kit is listed under the "HELP" line of auto products and is readily available at your local flaps. I have used it several times with old cores and had much better success than with the new repro cables.- Top

Re: 1958 tach/speedo cable
Bob,
I got mine from Corvette Central thinking it was something special it turned out to be a "Help" product by Dorman part number 03368, CC part number 211001, I would think it is less expensive at a local store. It is 72 inches long and bill as Speedometer Cable Kit,
