Re: c1 melling oil pump
The GM #359937 is a 1976-era replacement for the oil pan originally used on your car. It was never originally used on ANY C1 Corvette. However, it's external configuration is very similar to the pan originally used. I don't recall that the original pan even used an internal "trap door" configuration but it may have. In any event, the original was not the 359937.
One important difference between the original pan and the 359937 is the front oil pan gasket thickness. The original pan used a rubber gasket which was 0.22" thick. The replacement 359937 uses a front rubber gasket which is 0.41" thick. This style gasket was used on 1975-79 Corvette small blocks. So, you need to use a 1975-79 gasket set or a 1975-79 one piece gasket when using the 359937 oil pan.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
