    Parts help please!!

I'm trying to identify the Fan Blade Spacer that come off my 1960. It has the part number 3857041 casting and and N D cast above the part number. I'm trying to find out if it is the correct overall length for my 1960. The correct spacer per the 1960 AIM is 3754905.

    Thanks,

    Don

    Re: Parts help please!!

Donald, Noland Adam's book states that the spacer moved the fan assembly 1-15/16" closer to the radiator and that matches the length of my spacer. Adams confirms the spacer part number in the AIM.

I think I answered my own question. Looks like it is for 67, 68, 69 Camero SS 350 and 67, 68 Impala 396/427. Or at least that is what one is listed for on Ebay.

              Thanks,

GM #3857041 was used for many Chevrolet applications over the 1960 to 1968 period but no Corvette applications. It was used for 1967-68 Camaros without fan clutch but it was not used for 1969 Camaros. The 3757041 was 2-1/8" OD and 1-45/64" thick. It was discontinued without supercession in 1983. The 3754905 which was used on Corvettes was 2-3/8" OD and 1-15/16" thick. It was discontinued in November, 1962 and replaced by GM #3814241. The latter was discontinued without supercession in 1984.

                    Don,

I have 4 fan spacers in my "collection" that measure 2 3/8" O.D. and 1.90" to 1.92" long. The one from the 1959 Chevrolet 283 (May 1959) must be GM # 3754905 and the other 3 must be GM # 3814241 as per my 1963 and 1964 Chevrolet Parts Catalogs. They are basically all the same except for weight (weights shown are approx. using a baby scale).
There must have been 2 vendors for the 3814241 spacers.

                    59 Chev. 283, 6 oz., 1.92"
                    63 Chev. 283, 12 oz., 1.90"
                    64 Chev. 283, 4 oz., 1.91"
                    unlabeled, 4 oz., 1.91"

                    I sold my 1955, 1956, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, and 1962 Chev. parts catalogs several years ago.

                      Don,

I just found another spacer (not labeled) that measures 1.90" long and weighs 6 oz. It must be GM # 3754905 because of the weight. It has four 5/16" fine thread bolts that measure 2 3/4" long (effective length) with 1" thread length and "UR" & 8 radial markings. I must have lost 2 of the lock washers.

                        Dave,

You didn't mention if you found the part number on the spacers? Here are pictures of a correct one for 1960 per my AIM, part number 3754905 (I just bought off Ebay), and the one that came off my 60 vette, part number 3857401. The UR headmarkings agree with findings in the 1958-60 Corvette Restoration Handbook.

                        Thanks,

                        Don

                          Don,

None of my 5 original production line spacers (1 3/4" bolt circle) have a part number on them. There must have been more then one vendor that made the spacers for GM. I also have several original fan spacers (2 1/8" bolt circle) for 1969 & newer Chev. models and they all have parts numbers, some of which also have "N.M.P" while others do not indicating different vendors or made at different times or different molds.

I have more fan bolts in a box marked "5/16" eng. bolts" in my garage. When I get a chance I will check.
