I know this has been brought up many times and I have reviewed the archives, but I have yet another question about the master cylinder date codes on 1970 - 1972 cars. The latest version, 4th Edition, of the JM states on page 75 "On some cars produced in calendar year 1972, MK is stamped into power brake units and HC or ZC for manual brake units. Sometimes these are smaller characters than the earlier designations. Later 1972 cars (s/n 25,000 and 26,000) have no stamping on the front." I'm assuming these sentences are referring to the machined flat surface at the front of the master cylinder?? The JM goes on to say "The two letter code TG is stamped on the front line fitting surface with the date code." Does the "TG" get put on every master cylinder, power or not? What is the correct format for the date code? Is this different for different years? Thanks for your help. I just trying to make sure I get this right!

Here is a link to a previous Discussion with excellent photos for you https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...-Calendar-Date. Some time not always when you make a Post at the bottom of the page if you look there are similar in verbiage posts as yours is. As for the date the first character is the Year followed by the Julian day. The TG stamping is not always there and I personal have seen more without then with the TG stamping. Yes the MK, HC and ZC is for the front horizontal machines area. Hope that helps.- Top
