I forget if I sent you the early 54 or the later one. But if it was the early 54, the "Entombed 54", it is going for sale at Mecum in Florida next month.

In the photos of that car one will observe that the courtesy light switches were painted. Never seen that before. I spoke to the owner's mechanic today and he took one of them off and confirmed that there is no paint underneat it. They took the grill bar out to investigate non-working horns and found the last tooth on one side does not have the correct number. Another interesting assembly line issue. They either ran out of the correct ones or the assembly line worker made a mistake.

Troy, You sent me the early one, the "entombed Corvette." That's the best one for me, as mine is pretty early, too, #814. I'm looking forward to watching the auction in late January.

          Chris,
No paint work done in 2331 miles.

The reason why I inspect and document low mileage unrestored cars is to find the things that are not commonly known and seen but are nevertheless original. Ocassionally I make a discovery that refutes common knowledge.

One thing for sure about 53 to 56 cars is there is a wide variation in the way they came. Chevy seemed to be more consistent by 57.

While it is unusual to find the switches painted it is also unusual to find a "wrong" tooth in the grill bar and washers under one of the front bumperette supports to make them level.

It would be interesting to know when the other folks inspected the car as the current owner has had the car quite a few years and I was the only one he let see it. Everyone will have their chance before the auction.
