Re: Need Help to ID a Distributor

Interesting, the date I took was from the part number change in the GM parts book, the illustrarion shows a group number for the button, but the part referenced in that group is actually for the buttons on the weight plate used on some shp engines in 68 and beyond, I've worked on some distributors with the thrust button, and installed a brass button in some that the housings had been eaten into by the crossgear, but never paid a lot of attention to categorizing then as to what did and did not...

      Hi Duke,
Was the 1965 "L79" distributor you refered to in post 44 from a 327/350 with a 1111087 distributor? Good info on the ground wire that is often overlooked.

The ID band was there. We did not disturb it, and, frankly, I didn't even bother to check the number. The car was judged at a local chapter event in October, and I'm pretty sure it had the original distributor, which would be the 087 single point for a non-TI '65 L-79

As far as I could tell, the distributor had probably never been disassembled.

I copied my post about this event into a new thread. In particular the poor condition of the breaker plate ground wire is something that owners should be aware of, and I recommend buying the two dollar NAPA LW42 repair wire and either installing it now or keeping it on hand forwhen it's needed.

Jim, What is the distributor assembly date? I seem to remember another thread where I concluded that for future TIM&JG the rather than identifying a car serial number range for this change we rather should identify a distributor date range. The latter would be more accurate since the installed distributor date and the engine assembly date can stack up to render the car build date range wider than we might like.
