My tank sheet lists "auxillary hardtop" between tire size and convert. Does that mean it came with a body colored hardtop, as opposed to a vinyl hardtop? Or could it have been either? Would vinyl top have been listed separately?

Also, tires are listed as "775x15x2..." (rest cutoff of sheet.) I assume that means it was a 2-ply tire. Are we able to narrow that down to white-wall vs. red-lined vs. gold-lined, etc? I'm trying to get the car as close as possible to factory configuration.

The vinyl covering was an option, cost was 52.70 and would be on the buildsheet.

If the hardtop had a vinyl covering, you should find a "C-08" on the build sheet.

Whitewall tires should show a code of "P-92". Redline tires should show a code of "QB-1"

I believe all tires used on Corvettes of the period were 2 ply/4 ply rated.

My problem is that much of the sheet, including the codes, is missing. That's why I have to use other deductive reasoning to narrow down exactly what it came with as much as possible.

Unfortunately, for an option like vinyl-covered hard-top there is no way to determine what was originally installed on the car without original documentation (i.e. build sheet, window sticker, dealer invoice, etc.)

Joe, is that to say that the tank sheet designation of "auxillary..." means it came with a hardtop but it could have been either a body-colored one or a vinyl-covered one?

Tank sticker will say C07 for hardtop. Will also have C08 line if the hardtop is vinyl covered. Window sticker will do the same.

So the link Bob posted, thanks Bob, has the tank sticker showing only C07 for the aux hardtop and nothing about the vinyl covering. It's the window sticker that lists both C07 aux top and C08 vinyl covering separately. That clears it up very nicely. Mine could have come with either one. No way to know which one without additional docs. Thanks!!

This is my 63 top. With the trim out you can see the Job Number and the color to be painted. I would assume on your top, the job number would match that of the body and it would say vinyl instead of a color.

Not correct. Check post 9. My May 67 has the original tank sticker. It has one line for hardtop. It has a different line for the vinyl on the hardtop. I have the original hardtop with the vinyl. I was the one who lowered the tank and found the sticker till there. There are two different lines for a vinyl covered hardtop on the tank sticker. Take a look again at the link Bob posted. Look at the tank sticker more carefully. Look for the line that includes C07. Then find the line that includes C08.

Interesting how the 1974 dated letter from Bill Williams states that the build sheet was put under the right side carpet or inside the door. I wonder how long before it became widely known that it was on top of the gas tank.

Very correct, Mike. Thanks for pointing that out. It would have been on the tank sheet, under the Comfort and convenience options. Unfortunately, mine is missing the lower 1/2 and, therefore, I'm still at the point where it could have been either.
