The support bracket for the rear bumper has a gasket where it passes thru the body. Is this gasket fastened in any way to the body? Seems once its threaded on the bracket it would still let water in if it wasnt and would flop around. Just curious. Thanks as always.

Re: 54 rear bumper support bar seal
Well if it is the seal I am thinking of it is a flat piece of 1/8" thick rubber 4" x 4" with slots cut in it so it can slip over the bumper bracket. When I removed mine there was no mechanical fasteners that would seem to hold it in place. could not tell either if there was some sort of sealant that held it in place against the fiberglass tub. Anxious to hear what others suggest.
Seems you have a lot of the "putting it together" questions so your project must be moving right along!!!!

Re: 54 rear bumper support bar seal
the rubber seal was secured to the body by a yellow contact-type cement. same color and probably same product that originaly secured the weatherstrips to the body. i've done eight 53-57s and nearly all of their rubbers seals had evidence of the yellow glue on the rubber +/or the body. Al Knoch sells a yellow contact cement type adhesive that's 3x as adherant as 3-M weatherstrip aerosol cement. mike- Top
