I was replacing an aftermarket fan clutch on my 66 with the correct style and had these 4 bolts attaching the fan to the clutch (correct clutch uses studs and nuts to attach to fan). The bolts are 5/16-18 x 5/8 grade 5 TR head mark. What I am wanting to know is where these bolts my go? Could these be correct to use for later years to attach a fan to a clutch, or are they correct for somewhere else on my 66?

Re: 5/16-18 x 5/8 grade 5 TR bolt?
Jeremy,
I have removed many fan-clutches from various 1960's and 1970 junk yard GM cars. As I remember 1970's Chevrolets & Pontiacs used bolts on the fan-clutches.
According to my notes the four 120368 nuts as shown in the 1966 AIM (UPC 6, sheet A3) that attach the fan to the clutch are 5/16"-24.
The four 186634 bolts that attach the clutch to the W/P hub are 5/16"-24 X 1" (300-M).

Re: 5/16-18 x 5/8 grade 5 TR bolt?
Jeremy,
In my collection I have an original 1970 Chev. fan-clutch made by Eaton, 6" dia., 3.25" BC, ink stamped "CG" (GM # 4939900 in my 70 Chev. parts catalog) and "D20A" (date code = April, 20, 1970) that has 5/16"-24 studs, each 1 1/8" long.
I also have some aftermarket fan-clutches that use 5/16"-18 bolts.

Yeah I didn't think 5/16-18 was right since I thought the fan to clutch was always 5/16-24 whether bolt or stud, I was just wondering if the bolts that came off could be used somewhere elso on my car or someone elses.- Top
