    Harmonic balancer installation question

    When installing a balancer using the correct tool should any lubrication (oil, grease) be used on the mating surfaces?
    After installation a safety bolt and washer will be installed into the crankshaft.

    Bruce-----

    DEFINITELY use lubrication. I use a very light coating of EP chassis lube.

    By the way, make absolutely certain that there exist no "burrs" or "dings" on either the crankshaft snout or the balancer orifice. If there is you'll have a rough go of it trying to install the balancer and you'll likely break the installation tool or strip out its threads or the threads in the crankshaft.

        Hello Bruce;
        Additionally;
        We use a light coating, of your choice, of sealer.
        There is a remote chance of oil seeping out through the keyway slot.
        Hope this helps.
        Ray

        And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
        I hope you dance
