    70 nut on frame?

There is a nut on the bottom of the frame in front of the rear wheels.

    Should it be there?

    What is it for?

    Thanks, Bill

I can reach in the frame and feel the bolt but isn't really a bolt. It has a smooth head from what I can tell.

I stand corrected. It is a hex head bolt.

Do you have a picture of that exact area? I am thinking there may be a hole there and that a PO used it to mount a bracket or something.

            Hi Bill,
There's no bolt in that area of the frame on my 71.
Is it possible your car had side exhaust on it at one time? There is an s shaped bracket on the rear of the exhaust shield that typically mounts with a self tapping screw to the frame in that area.... perhaps a bolt was used on your car. The screw requires that a hole be drilled into the frame for it.
The rear mount for the pipe itself is in that area too, but it uses a larger carriage bolt and is in the existing key-hole slot in the frame.
            Regards,
            Alan

I looked at my car on the lift and there is no holes in the frame in that area. I Think Alan hit it on the nose, it may of had side exhuast.

Thanks guys. One more thing to fix

I was thinking along the same lines.

                  Just wanted to be sure.

I just found a pic of the underside of a top flight chassis and the holes are there. The pic shows them right by where the lift arms are placed.

If the nut was not there the bolt would have fallen out. That's what it's for.

Bill, there is a sloted hole and a hole about 7/16 im guessing ahead of my 72. I was thinking your hole was back from them, any way that good news , no hole to plug-up.
