    Harmonic Balancer

Has anyone had any experience having an original harmonic balancer rebuilt? Any recommendations of someone who can do this? As part of my engine overhaul, I have been told that this should be done or to buy a new one. Of course, I want to keep the original if posible. Thanks for your help.

You are right in doing this. On both my '67 and '68 the engines were rebuilt without doing the balancers. They both slipped over the next couple of years. I had DALEMFG.COM do mine and was very satisfied. He is semi-retired and I believe he takes alternate months off, so there may be better choices if circumstances are not in sync and you are in a hurry. I'm sure some others will come up with some Corvette specialiasts for this. It's a lot easier to install them while the engine is still out of the car.

There are two sources in Redding, CA that have good reputations for harmonic balancer rebuilding. One is called "The Damper Dudes" and the other "The Damper Doc".

There is a company here in Wake Forest, NC, Winslow Manufacturing, that rebuilds vintage harmonic balancers. I do not have any personal experience with them.

Thanks for all your responses! Joe, I called both of the companies you recommended and found the cost to be around $80 which makes this a no brainer (one was $70 and the other was $80). Turn around was 24 hours. There is no reason in the world not to do this while the engine is apart. Thanks again.
