    C3 Valve covers

    Gents,

Where there any differences (besides the dripper-less '69s) in the L46/LT-1/L82 valve covers? From an NCRS standpoint, would one be able to distinguish between a set of 1969 L46 valve covers vs. a 1975 L82 valve covers?

Paint. L-82 valve covers are usually semi-flat black with the tops of the fins unpainted.

      Peter,

I did some research on these valve covers a few years ago and this is what I have found.

      1969 Corvette & Z28: Cast. # "P-3932418"
Without drippers, "cutouts" are 3" long

      1970 Corvette & Z28: Cast # "P-3932417-LH", "P-3965543-LH", "P-3965544-RH"
Drippers are 11/16" wide @ bottom, 3/4" in height, "cutouts" are 3" long
These covers were possibly used on very late 69 Z28's made in Oct. & Nov. 1969.

      1971-1972 Corvette & Z28: Cast. # "3989005 L.H.", "3965542 R.H."
Oil cap hole is round for black rubber oil cap, "cutouts" are 3" long

      1973-1977 Corvette & 1973-1974 Z28: Cast. # "P 3965543 LH CBC", "P 3965544 RH'
Drippers are 5/8" wide, 5/8" in height, "cutouts" are 3 9/16" and 5" long

        Hi Michael,

The L-82 valve covers on the '75 were left as-cast aluminum.

Good info David. Can you define what you mean by "cutouts"?

Only the newer years have paint. 73,74,75 and possibly later didn't have paint.

The "cutouts" are long thin notches along the edge of the valve cover on the intake side for clearance purposes. On the 69-72 covers there are 2 "cutouts" about 3" long by about 1/8" (or maybe 1/4") or so as best as I can remember.
