Regarding the fiberglass ducts that mount in the lower outboard radiator surround area and funnel air to the front brake scoops: is the flange mounted to the front side of the radiator surround area fiberglass, or to the aft side of the glass. Just noticed that the AIM indicates the front, but in person, I've generally seen to the rear. Mounting with the flange to the front makes them appear considerably shorter and the air would be somewhat less direct to the scoop. Have you seen an unmolested original, and if so, what have you seen? Both of my RPO cars had them mounted to the aft, but neither was unmolested.

Re: RPO687 duct orientation
Mike, I believe that the ducts were mounted from the rear. When I restored
my 62, I tried to install them from the front and they would not fit. When I tried to
mount them from the rear all of the holes lined up correctly. The ducts were not
installed on the car when I purchased it.

Re: RPO687 duct orientation
Mike,
As with David's car mine did not have the ducts but the square hole and screw holes were there. The only way the duct would fit was from the rear. Any other #687 car that I have seen has them that way as well.- Top

Re: RPO687 duct orientation
they were mounted on the rear of my 61 rpo vet BEFORE i disassembled them from their virgin body. like the others have responded , i don't think its possible to mount them on the front side without modifications,mike- Top

Re: RPO687 duct orientation
That's what I've always thought. Had the question because the AIM indicates otherwise, and because I recently saw a silver/red car for sale, supposedly original 687 car, with them mounted from the front. Didn't look right, seem right, feel right, but seller was adamant about its correctness. Probably too adamant--that should have confirmed my concerns! Thanks- Top

Re: RPO687 duct orientation
Jim,
that would help more if I knew something about the history of the car, namely, is it un modified? I know how attach them from that side. Seems to me that the AIM indicates install from the other side, and I recently saw a for sale car that had them done from the front as well.
thanks,
Mike- Top
