    Michael,

If you can find the POP, it will have the VIN number on it. If you post it here you might get lucky if someone has your old VIN in their database, I would also check the C2 registry.

About the casting flaw in the "o" of your valve cover(s), was it in both or just one? I'm thinking the simplest answer is that your original valve covers may have been replaced before you purchased the car, but with only 10K miles that would seem unlikely.

If you recall, was there any orange overspray at all on the aluminum Valve Covers, or was orange overspray only on the intake manifold?

For a photo reference, there is a nice pair of NOS pre-flaw valve covers in boxes with the old black and yellow GM label that Crane Corvettes has on the auction site right now: LINK
It turns out that the part number on the end-flap of the boxes with the black and gold GM labels is 3850049, which does not appear to be the correct p/n for the 1963-1967 Corvette small block SHP valve covers.

          Mike,

I did not see your VIN listed in the C2 registry, but that's not surprising, there are only 452 Corvettes listed in the 1965 section.

You might try starting a Thread over on the Corvette Forum and posting your VIN there. I think their Forum is open to the search engines (Google, etc.), so if anyone searched for your VIN number via any of the major Internet search engines, they would find your post on the Corvette Forum. This Technical Discussion Board is not accessible to the search engines, if I understand correctly.

            Corvette aluminum valve covers had 2 different part numbers;
1956 & 1957 9 fin covers were P.N. 3726086 the early 1956 uncut inner edges and the staggered bolt pattern. Later in 1956 the inner edges were cut for manifold clearence.
Mid 1957 to March? 1959 were also P.N. 3726086 and had 7 fins, they also had high and low script and the staggered bolt pattern.
March 1959 through 1967 P.N. 3767493 also had 7 fins and the straight across bolt pattern.
As mentioned the casting flaw occured on P.N. 3767493 in 1966.

Mike, It's not easy buying one set of valve covers. If you are striving for perfection typcically you cannot find a mint set out there. A lot of guys end up buying two sets just to get one set worth putting on their show car. I find that buying them on the auction sites with the pretty pictures just doesn't cut it. You need to see them in person.
Minor flaws can be sanded out but chips out of fins and pits (especially around the Corvette script) are there to stay. The NOS over the counter valve covers are typically no cigar.
There is no such thing as "reskinning" valve covers. That's nothing but BS and false advertising. But I think most of us know that today.
Your valve covers with no seams were used from '60 to mid 66.
Don't know where you are from Mike but I suggest you hit the Carlisle Event shows and walk the grounds for valve covers. No shortage of them at those shows and you can see what you are buying.
Story: I gave up long ago of buying VC's from the auction sites with the idea of making a buck. Complete waste of time and money.
One time I bought a gorgeous set (photo wise) of covers from Ebay. The seller didn't mention anything about the hole in them from a PCV valve or some other kind of crap. The pics didn't show the hole either. Good luck, JD

That is so true. I bought mine at a show and the guy had three sets, none of them perfect. I talked to him a while, then left. Came back later and talked some more, finally he let me shuffle the sets and get the best two, but one of them still had issues. I may still buy another set in the future to try get the perfect set.

Paul and others. If you end up having to buy another pair just to get one go for it. A lot of guys are looking for just one valve cover. JD
