    Trim tag and production date

    Hello,

I had NCRS dealer search done on my 69, and the production date shows one day off (one day later) than the trim tag. Is this consistent? thanks

Yes it is, although sometimes (weekends and/or holidays) the off set is more than one day.

The trim tag was (for early C3s) dated and installed after the body was painted, but before it met the chassis, and before any trim was installed. Thus there was a lot of the car to put together after the date on the trim tag.

Generally for judging purposes we use the date on the trim tag.
    Terry

The Time/Built date on my '68 is April 20th. That was a Saturday. My NCRS Shipping Data Report shows the car was finished and ready for shipping on April 22.

Thanks very much, any idea on what percent of the time this occured?

Roger this occured every day and still does. As I understand it the production date GM supplied to NCRS is the day the car came off the assembly line and was released to the shipper and billed to the dealer. Every day when the line shut down at the end of shift completed cars were just short of coming off the line. I saw this happen with my 2002 in Bowling Green. I had to return at 6:45 am the next day for start of shift to see my car roll of the assembly line.

Given that the tag was stamped and attached to the car at a station nowhere near the end of the assembly line, I'd say the majority of cars were actually completed at a later date than the trim tag date.

per John Hinckley IIRC; the St. Louis production date is the date the Factory declared a car completed so they could count it in their completion numbers and get paid

                Roger -

If the trim tag was affixed on second shift, the car came off the end of the line the following day; if it was affixed early on the day shift, the car came off the end of the line that same day on second shift.
