    70 anti-theft relay mount

The bracket that holds the anti-theft relay assembly is completely missing from my rear jack storage compartment. This is part number 3937670 on sheet A3, UPC UA6 in the AIM. Remnants of the rivets (4) are still there where it was mounted but the bracket is long gone. Interesting too as mine was in the bottom of the compartment and not on the side as shown in the AIM. My car was produced in the last month so perhaps they moved them in 71. I can't find a source/supplier so any help would be appreciated. Maybe a photo of one would help as well.

    Thanks

I am going to go to the 1970 for a photo of the upper cooling hose -- so I can get your photo at the same time. My 1970 is an early build and has the bracket on the bottom floor of the jack storage compartment.

Does the 1970 AIM show a date for the change in the bracket? It will show "Item #x was XXXXXX" with a date following it. It is handy to have the AIM for the year before and the year after your car, but that leaves one with an extensive library that is beyond most people. Since I will be in the garage for all these photos, I can look at the 1971 AIM (my AIM collection, for the most part, is stored int he garage) to see if it has the change in bracket location. Of course if it was the same bracket and only the location changed we are SOL for clues -- there will be none.

One can never count on the configuration in the drawings in the AIMs. The only item the assemblers, draftsmen and engineers cared about was the part number. Details like head configuration, minor (this is) location changes, and so on are simply meaningless in the AIM. Of course even the part number change dates have to be taken with a grain of salt.

      Here you are Tom:

The above photo illustrates why the UA6 relays were moved in the later cars.

Interesting that the compartment is blacked out, but the bracket and rivets were clearly installed after the black out. Which means they were not done in the body shop. John Hinckley -- help. Unlike the battery hold down bracket which was painted during the black out. But then every car got a battery, but not every car got UA6

Did the change over happen right at the 70 to 71 model year change? My 71 SN 1632 has a lot of "left overs" from the 70 model, but my UA9 relays are not in the jack compartment.

          Tom,
If you have UA6 the relays may be out of sight of that photograph at the bottom of the picture you posted -- that is toward the front of the car. If you look at the pictures I posted there is a lip or ledge to the left. The second design location for the relay and flasher are on that ledge -- out of the way of the jack. That lip extends about 6-inches toward the front of the car. Up to the bulkhead behind the passenger seat.

You're probably going to have to seek one out in the used market. The GM #3937670 was discontinued without supercession in December, 1981. I don't know of a reproduction although there might be one.
