    1967 400 hp. Fuel Pump

Does any have a photo they can post of an original assembly line correct 400 hp. fuel pump that would have been used at the end of November 1966?
    Thanks,
    Mike

      Mike,

According to the 1967 AIM fuel pump # 6440482 (AC 40482) was used on L36 and L68 engines.

NOTE: UPC L36, sheet A8, was redrawn on 11-9-66. Also see UPC L71 L68, sheet A2.

      GM # 6416741 = AC # 40482

There is a NOS 6416741 fuel pump currently on Ebay (auction # 310522378052, not mine) that is stamped "CG 40482" (March 1967) with a starting bid of $399 and with 10 photos. The AC box is mid to late 1960's vintage. The date code is a bit too late for your car but I would think that it would be the same as one made in November 1966 or prior.

        John and David,
Thanks for your help. That is exactly what I needed.
If CG is March of 67, what should the date code be for September or October of 66?

          Mike,

A Sept. 1966 pump would be stamped "IF 40482" and a Oct. 1966 pump would be stamped "JF 40482". The letter "I" was used. I did some research of stamped date codes on AC fuel pumps as shown in the link below.

            Dave,
Thanks for the information on the dates. It never ceases to amaze me about the use of the letter "I".
            Thanks again,

              Mike -

A good general rule for the letter "I" is this - if it's a raised character on a casting, "I" was used; if it's a STAMPED character on a sheet metal part, "I" wasn't used.

                  Keith,

What is the actual stamped number on your original pump? The NOS "CG 40482" pump (which I believe is dated March 1967) on Ebay # 310522378052 definitely is different.

                    Dave,
It looks like "HF" to me from Keith's photo. This would be Aug. of 66?

                      Keith,
Are these pumps rebuildable and is this one for sale?
                      Thanks,

                        Mike,

After looking at the photo again the stamping is "HF 40482" where "HF" = August 1966. I guess my old eyes are not working like they used to.
There must have been a minor change made sometime between August 1966 and March 1967.

FWIW the new AC/Delco service replacements have no markings at all....that's what's on my 67 SB.

I have seen recrimped/rebuilt pumps for sale in catalogs but just wasn't comfortable
                          with it...

There was a change. Generally, the original 1966 pumps have the inlet configuration Keith pictured. I don't know of any source fopr this configuration pump except one originally manufactured this way (i.e. an original or PRODUCTION or SERVICE pump from about the 1966 MY period).
