    54 Grille Shell Retention Hardware

I removed these nuts, washers and plates from the grill shell which surrounds the teeth. The plates seem home made to me. Can anyone tell me if they are correct?

My 54 grill had single offset hole plates with E stamped on one surface on one end. My double hole plates had MM stamped offset to one hole on one side. hope this helps.

those you have in the photo - look orig
Agree with Lynn - the originals I have seen have a strange E stamped on the end plates and a M M stamped on the double hole plates

The long plates for each end of the grille mounting should be curved, not stright. Can't tell from the pic but look for the marks that Chris described.

Well, all of my plates are void of any markings. Which leads me to beleive they are as I thought; "home made". Darn!

Anyone know where I can get some originals or correct repro's? Also, what is the correct finish- painted, bare metal, galvanized?

              Cad plated I suspect.

The reproductions most likely do not have the M and E stamped in them as those were identifying marks put on by suppliers to GM. So, other than possibly wanting the curved end pieces that Brett discussed, I don't see the point of not using the parts you have. Once installed no difference would be detectible as the M or E could be installed facing the grill shell and thus cannot be seen even if it were there. If you just want the curved end pieces without buying the entire set I suggest you contact Mary Jo Rhoner as she will have original parts that don't have to be sold in sets.

Re: 54 Grille Shell Retention Hardware

I just did some further research and discovered the plates that attach my grill teeth to the center bar have the MM stamped in them. The plates in my photo are the plates that attach the grill surround to the body and they don't have any markings. I just want to confirm the plates referenced by Lynn and Chris are the ones used to attach the oval surround to the body.

Troy, thanks for the additional info.
