1957 vin number

How hard and where do you find the vin number on the frame. I have a 57 with a state issued vin.

There are two ways. One is to lift the body off of the frame, the VIN # will be under the drivers side sill about the middle of that part of the frame. I have observed two identicle stampings about 4 to 6 inches apart on the same part of the frame. The other is to cut out that part of the sill fiberglass and the number will be under it. The body does not have to be lifted high, just enough to use a strong flashlight. If you use this lifting method, a chassie lift would be handy. When I lifted the body off of my 57, I had 6 neighbors and friends helping, along with a case of beer that was dispensed after the body went back into the frame, 2 years later. Have fun.
