When I got my 70, it had the carpet and underlayment removed. I ordered carpet and underlayment from ACC. The underlayment is black rubber with jute pad glued to it. It looks just like the underlayment Alan has been posting pictures of. The carpet also came with jute glued to it. Would this combination be correct? What would be most correct? Alan's pictures are great, but would anyone else have any pictures while installing? Not much in the archives. Also what areas glue and don't glue? Thanks for the help.

Re: 1970 carpet and underlayment
Dallas, I believe the original jute was glued to floors. and would tell you only to glue in the areas of the rug that may sag ,like the sides of the front, and behind front seats. I would think if you leave the jute attached to the ACC carpet it would help some with the heat that is transmitted to floor boards from engine and exhaust. You may want to see for yourself how everything fits first.
In my 72 I think the only area that is glued is behind the seats the molded carpets seem to fit pretty good and my carpet are made by ACC. My car is a couple. If you have a conv. I think you'll find the will be some other areas to glue like in the rear storage area for the top.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: 1970 carpet and underlayment
Hi Dallas,
I found that the most difficult part of the installation of new carpet was getting the wheel house pieces in place, trimmed, and then cut for the astro-ventilation drain hoses and the bracket for the shoulder belt reel cover screw. I did that with 2 different mfg.'s carpet and then ended up deciding to use my original in stead.
I also found it a bit tricky to get the piece of carpet that's on the metal bulkhead behind the seats tucked below the flange on the rear compartments frame. It kept wanting to be forced out as I put the frame tightly in place. I ended up using small pieces of tape to hold the carpet that were then hidden by the frame.
Here's a picture of that process and also one of the drain tube cutout.
Good Luck! I'd be happy to try to answer other questions you may have.
Regards,
Alan
