Earlier this week saw 2 disassembled 62 fuelies, both taken apart in the 70's. Crammed into a 2-car garage, along with many spare parts. I doubt either will be done during the owner's lifetime. Urban setting, declining/declined neighborhood. Both were typical upper-Midwest daily drivers until mid-70's disassembly.

Re: They're still out there!
Met an old Corvette friend in a small southern Ohio town this summer who I hadn't seen in 45 years. We bought our '67's at the same time and gassed-up at the same Amoco station. His, a maroon 427/390 coupe with sidepipes and mine a red 327 conv. Turns out he still own's his Corvette too but wrecked it in 1978 and has sat in his under-the-house garage since. 28,000 miles, all paperwork, moldy interior, water from a bathroom dripping on the roof and the center nose area is gone. You can barley see the car with all the kids toys and junk covering it. "Oh no, it's not for sale...had it to long."- Top

That's a shame. Like many the meaning doesn't continue with the kids. My daughter, although has some memories, doesn't have the interest and neither does my son-in-law. I guess I could adopt a 30 year old enthusiast.I told my wife when my time comes to sell all of my stuff to NCRS members where they will be more appreciated and valued.

I have often thought the same regarding selling to another NCRS Member. But my oldest daughter is three, and she already likes to go for rides in the '65. Since it has sidepipes she does like a little ear protection.

Re: They're still out there!
Both of my daughters who got married here asked if I could come up with pre-63's for each couple standing up in the wedding. (9 in the one wedding, 7 in the other.) Corvette friends helped out with loaners. They requested those because that's what they grew up with. And both brides and grooms rejected the limo idea so they could leave the church in the silver 62 fuelie. I guess we raised them right! We have 4 girls, and in both weddings, two of our non-bride daughters (bridesmaids) had to drive other 62's because the groomsmen they were paired couldn't drive a manual transmission.- Top

Re: They're still out there!
My daughter loved riding in the Corvettes (Cornvettes as she used to say) when she was young. She always wanted to take a Corvette when we went anywhere and helped with washing and maintenance. Oddly, at 16 when she was getting her license all interest dropped not only in Corvettes but in driving and cars. At the time she was 18 we bought a Spitfire, thinking she wouldn't get in much trouble with that. She drove it alot less than I did and she preferred the family big Chevy. Today she has no interest. Her husband grew up with his dad having an MG. Same with him, he loved to ride in it and the interest went away and never liked driving it so the family Honda was his choice. Since my daughter wants their son, who is 3 now, to have a Smart Car when he drives I have a feeling the thrill may end here with me---unless I get him for the summer and show him how to adjust WCFB's and Solexes and then maybe a little hand/foot coordination at 6,000.I think I will start by giving him a couple of Beach Boys albums---Shutdown and Little Duece Coupe.

Re: They're still out there!
I recently acquired a arctic blue 56 that had been sitting in a garage since 1964 with 59K original miles on it. Right next to it was a 61 silver fuelie VIN #10. Also in the same garage, a black 59 fuelie and a maroon 67 coupe with sidepipes...all in a lovely little row. Amazing find. Apparently, the 67 was owned by Joey Heatherton...the blonde bombshell from the 60's and 70's. My buddy and I got the 56 and the 61...along with a bunch of NOS parts and trim pieces. You certainly don't find them every day, but when they are uncovered, be ready to purchase. In and out in the same day! These same cars had deals made on them before and the deals always fell through somehow because of the lag in time and other delays and the seller changing his mind. Pull the trigger quick, I say!
