Re: Reinstalling speedometer cable
I loosened the cable a couple little turns behind the speedometer and guess what? It is fixed. No more screeching sound or no more speedometer needle jumping around. I cannot believe it. It was just to tight. Dutch- Top

Re: Reinstalling speedometer cable
That says that the ferrule crimped on the speedo head end of the cable (which prevents the cable from being removed from the casing from the transmission end) was slightly mis-located, placing an axial load on the first worm and magnet when the cable nut was tightened.- Top

Re: Reinstalling speedometer cable
Dutch,
I got under the dash on my 65 coupe a few weeks ago just to see if I could loosen it to possibly lubricate it.
I got it loose and then had a difficult time getting my hand out.
Had to stop, take a few deep breaths and relax. While doing that I wondered how while laying half in and half out of the car I could get my cell phone out of my right pocket with my left hand. No way.
After relaxing, my hand came out sort of easily....
I'll lubricate it some other time.- Top
