    C2 Leaf Sprong Liner Lengths

Does anyone have the exact factory lengths for 1965 standard 9 leaf spring plastic liners?

I don't have the drawing, but typically the liners are flush to about 1/4" longer than the end of the spring leaf above them.

      John,

I would assume the length that is approximately 1/4 longer than the spring length is when the spring is assembled, installed and full weight of the car is on the spring...correct? I would think that the spring liner kits sold by the various parts vendors would be cut to the proper length.

      Thanks,

If you call Corvette Central and get the technical line, they will tell you the length of each liner.

Since I have have a 63 I use Quanta and do not have them cut the liners, I cut them. The 63 liner length is different. On a 63 there is no liner between leaf 1 and 2, on a 64-67 there is no liner between leaf 3 and 4. The suppliers only sell the 64-67 kits.

What material are you using for the liners? I've seen this video with Jeff Salz from the Michigan Chapter where near the end he talks about an Eaton liner material that is very close to original part. Where do you buy this material?

When I replaced original liners in my '65 coupe, back in 2003, I took measurements. Idea was to re-use the good sections of original liners (ie. the centermost sections) to minimize the new ones to order from my Chev dealer. They were still available [#3794113] at $28.20 each (only one length, suitable for the longest liner, between lowest leaf and the one above (which I call the 1/2 liner). Ended up having to buy 4 of these new liners to do the job. Did I mention I was cheap ?

Here's the liner lengths I cut from the new long GM ones. As the car sits now, 9 years later, there is about 3/16 to 1/4" liner protrusion past each end of the upper leaves.
            1st/2nd=112.8 cm; 2/3=98.2 cm; 3/4=84.0 cm; 4/5=73.7 cm; 5/6=62.0 cm; 6/7=no liner; 7/8=40.0 cm; 8/9=28.2 cm

            Convert 2.54 cm = 1 inch

Mike, thanks for posting this video, great information.

I have seen a Jay Leno segment where a C3 Corvette was examined with a Corvette restorer, the back end looked jacked up, Jay said that's not a mistake but that's by design, how they came from the factory, and the restorer confirmed it. I have also read this elsewhere. It never looked right to me, and when I had my '69, mine didn't look jacked up in the back, and I wouldn't have driven it that way (until I started having trailing arm problems, which is another story).

In the video you posted, Jeff Salz shows a picture of himself with his then-new (one month old) Corvette in March of 1971, and the back end is most definitely NOT "jacked up". Jeff says about the 1971 photo (shown during the video) "That's got the original tires on it, and you can see again the ride height, you can see how even it looks and you can't put your fist between the tire and the fender."

I see a lot of C3s that look jacked-up in the back, high enough that you CAN put your fist between the top of the tire and the bottom of the fender, so this may be a widespread misunderstanding.

Regarding the liner material, Jeff says that it is available direct from Eaton Spring. He begins talking about the liners at 10:30 into the video. He mentions that you can buy the better liner from Eaton (by the foot) at 11:15 into the video.

Here's a X-section comparison of an original liner off my 396, alongside an NOS GM liner.
