    Metal tag on seat bottoms

Has anyone ever verified if these are date coded?

The attached metal tag came off a '76 seat.

I've read a number of posts regarding the part number for the seat spring and frame assemblies, so far I haven't seen anything if the last digits are dates.

Also, if these are dates, what are acceptable dates related to the build date. 1 month, 2 months, etc.

BTW, I know these are not judged - just curious.

    Thanks for any insight !

Looks like 3585, if I am seeing it right. That is very late in 1975 if it is a Julian date. If so it would be for a 1976, I think, but WTFDIK.

Everything on the car for judging purposes is six months except window glass. So if it were judged the rule would be within 6 months before body build date. As to what is typical? We don't know because as you point out, we do not judge it. We have an insufficient data base to offer a TFP.

      Thanks Terry.

I don't have the AIM for 1976, some people pointed out the seat tag part numbers are in the AIM.

Thanks for the heads up on 6 months prior. I wasn't sure about that.........

I should have qualified the six month rule -- in that specific parts can be different than 6 months, usually longer, if the TIM&JG for that year specifies them as such.

An example I am familiar with for the earlier C3s is the dated tower clamps used on hose that connects the BB air cleaner assembly to the rocker cover. The TIM&JG specifies that those clamps can be a year or two before the date of the car. My guess is that Chevrolet bought a whole big batch of them and kept them around for a long time. Another is the L88 starter in which they apparently made one batch in 1967 and used it through all L88 production. Thus one can and should have a 1969 L88 with a 1967 dated starter.

I can not cite you a 1976 example, if here are any, because I do not have a 1976 TIM&JG, but in general these exceptions to the six month rule are few and far between.
