    396 trivia

the 2003 5th ed of the 65 judging manual state there ought not be a capacitor in the typical locations if the 65 was a 396(all had TI). there is a delco capacitor of the coil bracket of vin 22137 and it appears to be original. the capacitor is stamped 1935729. i notice that long island corvettes sells coil capacitors but notes that "390 HP no TI after 10/65", which is a bit confusing to me. anybody out there have a 396 with a coil capacitor or did bubba add it to my 396 before i bought her in 1980? regards, mike

Sooner think that "bubba" added the 396 to the coil capacitor...coulda happened before but most likely after yer acquistion in 1980...

Rat motor, porcupine heads. Scary fast.

"Most of the horsepower advantage in the new motor could be found in the design of the heads which were nicknamed "porcupine heads", a reference to the way the valves were located at odd angles similar to the quills on a porcupine. The entire big block Corvette was thus sometimes known as the "fiberglass porcupine". "
