    1967 Roadster Side Window

I took out my window today to get the vent window frame removed and rechromed. As I was pulling the window out, and it came away from the frame it rides on while going up and down.

I few years ago I had this same situation and I brought it to a "friend of a friend" who put a piece of "tape" in the frame and hammered the window into place.

Can anyone tell me what this "tape" is and where can I get it to repair the window myself?

    Thanks

    Jerry

    Jerry -

It's called "glass setting tape" - any auto glass shop will have it, in several thicknesses.

All due diligence when 'tamping' the sash onto the glass using the setting tape.

        John,

Any idea what that thickness needs to be?

        Thanks

I've used the window setting tape with some success. Tape does come in different thicknesses, might have to experiment as your looking for glass to be firmly set in the sash. Keep in mind the the more tape on the glass , firmer the setup will be, however the more difficult it will be to slip sash onto glass. I used a spray oil to help with insertion. The oil will cause (help) the tape to expand.

Option: On my last car chose to use 3M Window Weld. The product in a caulk tube is inserted (squirted) into the sash channel, then the glass. Excess product needs to be trimmed off before setting up. Product is then left to set up....worked great. Not so sure if I'll ever use setting tape again.
