I know there are many Viet Nam vets on this forum, as am I. I am researching the history of a 67 bb coupe that has NCRS delivery information stating Zone 44 Dealer 00. Zone 44 is Michigan and dealer 00 is unknown as far as I know. The second owner thinks he bought the car as an almost new Corvette from the Corvette Shop in Harper Woods MI near Grosse Pointe. He was told that the car belonged to a Viet Nam vet who never returned. I remember standing in the BX in Danang in 1968 deciding if I wanted to order a new Corvette. The deal was that a returning GI could order the car in Viet Nam at a very good discount and have it delivered to any dealer stateside upon his return. My question is... would that account for a Zone 44 (Michigan)and Dealer code 00? If so, that might confirm the story. Thanks for any help, Bill Gould

Re: Corvettes ordered from Viet Nam
Here is my Viet Nam paper work. Unfortunately, I don't have the window sticker or the tank work order ( I replaced the fuel tank many years ago before I knew it was there and its significance) but most importantly, I still have the car. In fact, it's birthday is coming up at the end of the month. I originally ordered a 66 but because of the strike at the end of the 66 run and a delay in my return to CONUS I got a 67 (the best thing that could have happened).
I didn't order my car through the PX. Mine was order at a store front operation in downtown Danang with a commission of 1200 Piasters ($100).

Re: Corvettes ordered from Viet Nam
Wow! Would you please add some pictures of your Corvette. It's great to see the paperwork and know you are the original owner of this truly American Legend. The Chevrolet Corvette!
Thank you for sharing this important piece of history with us. And thank you for your service to the United States of America.

Re: Corvettes ordered from Viet Nam
When i worked at Luby Chevrolet in the new car department in Boston in the late sixties. I would have to take people that came in to see their car they ordered from overseas, They usually came in with the whole family. It was always a Corvette or Chevelle SS 396 or Z28 I was in my late teens at the time.- Top

Re: Corvettes ordered from Viet Nam
There was a story in The Restores back about 2000 about a 1972 that was ordered from a hardware store in SE Asia (I belie Viet Nam). Written by Ray Wolsen about the car he bought -- Ray was not the original owner, but he traced the car back to the original owner. I think from the PoP. Anyway a neat story with pictures of some of this kind of paperwork. Ray ultimately BowTied the car and I think Duntov as well, but don't hold me to the latter. If you are interested in this kind of story, look up Ray's story.Terry- Top

Re: Corvettes ordered from Viet Nam
I had to reply one more time because today is an auspicious event, the birthday of my 67, 04930. I have included some Photobucket pictures that are pertinent to the history of the car (and my history at the time and subsequently). My wife of 43 years (our first date was in the car in Dec of 66) has labeled me a pack rat but I am proud of it as I have kept some really good stuff, including her. I found it interesting that the gas card and receipts were in her maiden name and I do hope the ear ring was hers.

Re: Corvettes ordered from Viet Nam
Wonderful pictures, thanks for sharing, especially love that ski rack, what an accessory, was that dealer installed. Brings back period memories I have of hanging around Cam Ranh Bay, wish I had had more than a few piasters to rub together to order a 'Vette.

Before I left Vinh Long in 1964, I ordered a '65 GTO for delivery when I got home, and picked it up at the local Pontiac dealer in Plymouth, Michigan (and took it over to Royal Pontiac in Royal Oak and had Milt Schornack turn it into a "Royal Bobcat").- Top
