The good Old Days --- differential removal

Inaccessible or stubborn bolts ? Just drill access holes in the fiberglass. If you were real fussy, you might even patch later.

Floorpan is currently on eBay. 2nd thumbnail is view from underside.

This method may be mentioned in the Chasis service manual.

no need to ever do that (holes in floor). just remove the entire cross member, rear end and all. two 7/16 bolts on ends of member hold it in.

My 67 has a hole in the jack compartment behind the driver, maddening! I don't think it even saved bubba any time!

Exactly, and you have to pull up the carpet to make those holes?? That makes no sense.

Wayne, holes can also be "markers"; two 1 1/4" holes in the lower passenger inner fender virtually confirm that the derelict you're looking at came with factory A/C and the two forward sparkplugs were changed by taking the wheel off....

With the rear cross member, leaf spring, rear cover, etc. in place on the car the diff carrier assembly can be removed/replaced as a separate unit if one chooses to do it that way. The upper two carrier bolts are somewhat difficult to reach, but doable.

I just went through this. Not sure I'd do it this way again, though, without removing the entire rear end assembly.
