    70 Firewall Splash Shields?

Should the the lower attach bracket for the firewall splash shields be bent like mine or straightened out?

    Mike,
the bend near the rivet should not be there, but the bend (maybe about 45*) near the shield itself should be there.

I usually see these shields curved, and I have not been able to determine if they were originally straight or curved. I know if the car is driven they will curve, but how they were when installed???

According to GM, most 1969 and all 1970 used the same bracket. However, I don't see how this was possible since most 1969 used the plastic splash shields whereas 1970 used the metal shields. It's possible that very late 1969 used the metal shields. In any event, my mid-September, 1969-built convertible was originally equipped with the plastic shields. Attached is a photo of the bracket used on my car.

Interesting Joe -- the plastic shields have a very different bracket than the metal shields.

          Hi Mike,
In looking at your picture it appears to me that the shield may not have the typical bend in it at it's bottom and that may be contributing to the need for the bend in the mounting bracket. From the position of the lower part of the shield I'm thinking the 2 upper mounting tabs on your shield may be well be bent too.
Here's a picture of a left and right shield that I believe have typical bends in them. Perhaps you can use them for comparison with the ones on your car.
The shape of the mounting bracket on my car is very much like the one in Joe's picture.
          Regards,
          Alan

Yes, the plastic shields have essentially the same configuration as the metal, at least with respect to the lower offset.

Mike my original owner 1970's drivers side bracket is not bent down as much as yours from the rivet location. My 70's passenger side does not look like your drivers side.
