could you guys that have non-power brake 396's check the plug in the intake that would normally serve the power brake booster if PB equipped. my intake plug is an allen plug which just doesn't look kosher. i'd expect a pipe plug with four sides or a hex plug. thanks, mike

I agree with the others. During the 50's, 60's, and 70's I can't think of a single application in which GM used an internal hex (allen) pipe plug. They were either external square head (by far, the most common) or internal square head.
Incidentally, the most "egregious" use by GM of a square head pipe plug is for the external bypass fitting for 1972-82 Corvette small block waterpumps. What an ugly, non-factory-like installation for this so-very-prominent feature!!!!!! But, that's the way they were done. An internal hex head plug appears so much better. But, don't show up for judging with one.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 65 396 intake manifold
i removed the allen plug and went to my drawer of pipe plugs and out of about fifty 5/8" four sided pipe plugs, i found one with a papule( a more correct way of describing the "pimple"). thanks much guys. mike- Top
