Let me know just where you need pictures. Have taken a few and most are not acceptable so it's going to take some work to get good ones.

The exact same tie rod ends were used for all 1963-82 Corvettes, not just C2's. They are as Alan has pictured. No aftermarket tie rod end is configured anything like the originals. However, reproductions have come on the market recently. I don't know how accurate they are, though.

              Joe/Alan,
Thank you for the photos and feedback!....It is very much appreciated.

Trying to locate some originals and need to see the config./profile since the repros do not come close.

              Thanks again,
              Dominic.

                Alan,
Hopefully 1 final question....are there any part numbers visable that you could share?

                once again, really appreciate it.

Yes there are numbers on these - believe they are related to casting number however. The actual numbers (appear to be 3 digits) I'm unable to read probably due to age (of part & me too). Know its been discussed before perhaps Joe remembers. My searches had no luck - it would be nice if the "AND" function worked since tie and rod are both to short to use.

What marking I do see are on the side of the grease fitting on the neck area - you can see something in my pictures

                    Alan,
Thank you!....as you stated, it is very difficult to read the markings/numbers.

Maybe someone else (Joe?) may know what they are.
                    Thanks again,
                    Dominic.

Here's a photo of one of the tie rod ends from my 71. The same numbers/letters are on all four of them.
                        Regards,

                            Alan -

The numbers and the "GMT" identify the set of forging dies used to make the raw forged part at the Tonawanda Forge plant; it's very common to find the "GMT" on many forged Chevrolet steering linkage parts, as the Tonawanda Forge plant made most of them for the Chevrolet-Buffalo plant that finish-machined and assembled them and produced Chevrolet steering linkage assemblies.

The old Tonawanda Forge played an important role in history of Corvette components. So did the Detroit Forge and Chevrolet-Buffalo (later Saginaw Division). All three were part of the "package" of GM manufacturing plants "spun off" to American Axle and Manufacturing (AAM) in the 90's. AAM is still around but I don't think that any of these plants are. I think that all have been closed and, with them, another part of Corvette manufacturing history has "died". All of the forged parts with "GMT" embossed on them are now "orphans". For that matter, all the cast parts with "GMT" embossed on them are "orphans", too, since the Tonawanda foundry was closed in 1984.
