Bob. I don't think the NCRS "approves" any products for use, but you can find a supplier such as Lectric Limited or M&H Electric Fabricators in the DriveLine.

      Bob,

I've heard of lots of reliability problems with the Lectric Limited date coded wires. I would only use them for judging.

Bob, Joe --- I have a set of LL wires from about 5+ years ago, and the grey plug-end boots are 1/2" shorter after the bend (ie. towards the shielding); pic below. Also, the weave of the braid/shielding is different (at least from Delco service sets from the '70s). IIRC, the wire diameter of the shielding weave is smaller on the repros. The 90 degree dist. end boot seems bang-on, though. Better to do the Chinese finger puzzle excercise to save the shielding, if still there and in OK condition.

Exactly, I've installed those carbon core wires right out of the package and they were junk. Checked them with a meter and three of the eight were complete open. Try them anyway and NO SPARK. The only thing they are good for is to remove the ends and install them on solid core Packard 440 wire. Get a stamp made to mark them and you are good to go.

I would not even use Lectric Limited for flight judging unless ya want to loose points for engine miss as it idles. Do you ever notice at NCRS events the huge numbers of Corvettes that run and start like crap?

Has anyone had experience with M&H?

Here's something I've been holding from member #14... Old "honest doc" McCagh...will get around to publishing it someday in an upcoming issue of The Restorer

              McCagh Plug Wires
Read this if you want the engine to perform efficiently and without ignition misfire. This article will describe how I make up a set of Packard Delco 440 Steel Core spark plug wires that will out perform the current reproduction or service replacement wires supplied with a carbon core.

I became disenchanted with carbon core plug wires years ago, after several plug wire removals (i.e. to replace spark plugs). The carbon core wires fail to deliver the voltage necessary for the engine to perform as Duntov intended. The only downside to these Packard/Delco 440 wires involves the radio interference inherent with steel or copper core plug wires, but who gives a hoot what the radio sounds like at 110 mph going through the traps at 13 seconds with only a 283 C.I.? By the way, these Delco/Packard plug wires can be made to look like the Packard TVR Suppression plug wires that the judging manuals describe. A trip to the local stationary store along with $8.00, brought home a pair of stamps that read "GM Radio", "TVRS" at appropriate intervals on the Delco/Packard 440 solid core plug wires.

You should be able to salvage the distributor cap end plug wire terminals from the donor set and re-use them on the 440 plug wires.

              OLD HONEST MIKE.

Next, measure the lengths of the service replacement plug wires and cut pieces from the 100’ roll of 440 wire (I usually cut each wire 1" longer than the replacement plug wires). Wipe the "Packard 440" ink stamping off the eight pieces with lacquer thinner.

I’m pretty confident the flight judges won’t pick up the plug wires as having started life as 440 wires. The PV judges may have an easier time catching me though. Have fun & go fast.

Now I'm not sayin' --- Thanks for the info guys.

PV judges might catch NTP ignition wires.

If they might not, as your careful attention to detail indicates possible, so what? No issue.

If they do; again, so what? Only issue would be consideration as a prohibited performance enhancement; current guidlines are being addressed.

If performance enhancment is not valid, there is NO ISSUE.

We are reminded the only requirement for entry into the PV process is a third flight. Wires are a low point item.

Give thanks to those that serve...
