NOS in a box from GM means original part number replacement will fit as original, not necessarily identical to...Especially true of parts not originally manufactured in-house. I'd bet there is a date on the box itself well after 1957. As to applicability to a Corvette, I'll let some of the early C-1 Guru's comment...

Bill Thanks for your reply. the box is dated 8-55 in my quest I found another one in the box that had the correct flat end but it was not for sale. I suspect the rounded ends were left over from a 53 or 54 and used on this one. It will not work for mine but some one may need this rare one for a survivor or low mileage car. I was luck as the other side was correct for my 2800 mile 59 thanks again for any help RDRphoto.JPG16.jpgphoto.JPG14.jpgphoto.JPG15.jpg

The rounded ends were made through 1955 and that's what the 55 Chevy passenger cars came with. Flat ends starting in 56.

The 53-55 six cylinder Corvettes also had the rounded ends but they were shorter than the passenger car mufflers. The 55 V8 Corvette mufflers were round and not oval like these.
