    Restoration of 1966 exterior mirror

In an internet search I ran across the website for "Joyce Borrell Mirrors Restored" (URL: http://www.mirrorladypa.com). Has anyone used their services before and does anyone know if they restore mid-year exterior mirrors? Finally, does anyone know if they do the quality of restoration that will pass judging muster without any worries of deducts?

Does anyone have an alternative suggestion of someone else who does high-quality restoration of exterior mid-year mirrors?

    Thanks,

    Gary

I've got one of her 'restored' mirrors in my '66. Has been through NCRS judging twice, good looks, great functionality....no issues.

      Gary:

She also runs ads in the NCRS Driveline. She has been doing these restorations/repairs for many years. You should be happy with the result.

        Michael,

What level of judging are you talking about? Chapter, Regional, and/or National? I've seen repro mirrors fly thru a chapter judging, but the same repro mirrors often garner deducts at Nationals.

          Hey Gary,

Mine is an original. I mispoke in my original post, judged once at Lone Star Regional, Frisco, TX. Oct. '11. Passed w/no issues. I've seen plenty of originals out there, so finding one shouldn't be an issue. Many times the judges at the regional events are the same at the national level.....believe mirror would score the same.

I have a 63 rear view mirror from her excellent quality. and I brought the mirror support which was a original that was rechromed.

              Gary,

I bought a 67 mirror from the mirrorlady on ebay. No issues at all, it was in great shape and had a mirror date closer to my car than the original.

I don't think it was restored by her, as it was advertised as too good to be restored.

I got pretty good service from her, price was OK and quick delivery. Would recommend.

                Jerry,

If the price you got was "OK", then I think you lucked out. She currently has an NOS exterior mirror for sale for close to $500. And the quote for having a good core restored is close to $300. I didn't expect things to be quite in that range.

                  Gary,

By OK, I meant $95 plus shipping for a 67 "nice used" original non bowtie with a replacement glass and retainer ring. It was in great shape and unrestored.
This was only in June of this year.

                  Maybe keep looking

                    Jerry,

Was the non bowtie mirror just on the late 67 cars? The NOS mirror that's on my early car does not have a bowtie, I bought it from GM back in 1985 or 86.

                      Tim,

The 67 JG says the bowtie mirror was used to vin 8000, with examples to 10500. The non bowtie was from 10500 up with examples to 8000.

                        Her work is outstanding.
I have 3 of her mirrors and have never had issues in either finish, function, or judging at either NCRS or BG.
                        I highly recommend her.

                          Hello Gary,

I've purchased a few mirrors from Joyce over the years and she is excellent and stands behind what she does - Buy with confidence. One caution to you - many NOS mirrors are are not what I would call "on-the-car production correct" or "period correct" so be sure of what you are buying. Period correct mirrors in excellent condition are getting very hard to find and the prices asked for these mirrors reflect that. Prices on good mirrors have gone up in price in the last 1-2 years. Good success with your search.

So from your post, S104551 should have come with a mirror with a bowtie?
                            Thanks,

                              Gary,

I've used Bob Kauffman, (717) 938-2731 in New Cumberland, Pa. He did my interior and exterior mirror that passed NCRS National flight judging. Do not know if he is still in business. I also heard that he traveled South for Winter.

                              Regards,
                              Dave K.
