    New Cam for 1964 327/300

I need to know the specs on the cam for a 1964 327/300 hp motor. Also where to order a new cam.
    Thanks
    Mike

Your engine originally used cam GM #3733431. This camshaft was discontinued and replaced for the 1967 model year and earlier SERVICE by the GM #3896929. The latter cam had specs of as follows:

duration @ 0.050 lift: intake 195 degrees, exhaust 202 degrees

valve lift with 1.5:1 rocker: intake 0.390", exhaust 0.410"

The 3733431 had slightly "milder" specs but it was close.

You can easily obtain aftermarket reproductions of the 3896929. I don't know if reproductions of the 3733431 are available but I would guess they are.

However, if I were you I'd go with a GM #14060651. This is the current GM replacement for both the 3733431 and 3896929. It GM lists for about 315 bucks but can be purchased for about 200. However, sources like Sallee Chevrolet in Oregon, Jim Pace in Ohio, and Scoggins-Dickey in Texas often sell these cams at VERY low prices (like 25-50 bucks) as they are "take-out" cams from new GM short blocks they build up with hotter cams.

I would use the 14060651 camshaft in conjunction with the GM #5232720 lifters much more economically available as a set of 16 under GM #12371044.

Regardless of whether the above combination is used or, aftermarket reproductions of the original cams, no one will ever know the difference as far as engine operating characteristics and/or judging is concerned.

Sealed Power CS74. It's built to the 3896929/30 blueprints. It's about fifty bucks at NAPA and you can see the specs if you type the part number into the home page search box.

The Crane Cam blueprinted 968711 comes with the same specs as Joe described. I think they go for about $100.00. It's been awhile since I bought one.
