    Vacuum Advance suppliers

Does anyone know where I can get a B-28 vacuum advance? AKA= VC1810, D1312C (delco #) Fits 327 High Performance, 1964. I've tried all of the standard places, ie: Long Island, CC, Ecklers, Rockauto.com, etc.

It's not reproduced anymore and I haven't been able to locate one.

    Help is appreciated.Thank you,

      Cliff -

They were never "reproduced" in the past by anyone, but Standard Products has manufactured them for years and sold them to Echlin and many others (including GM, #88924985). I used to buy them from GMPartsDirect.com, and Lars Grimsrud said the other day he's still getting them from RockAuto.com. As Dan noted, Don Baker is now reproducing them, but I don't know what he gets for them.

Nope - the D1312C is the Standard Products "B28" can in an AC-Delco box.

The old Delco number for the "MS 236-16" was D1316A.

Standard Motor Products has discontinued the VC177 stamped B28. So, I suppose that means that all the other brands which boxed this part under their brand either have or soon will discontinue it, too. The GM equivalent, GM #88924985, has been discontinued. Some stock may still be around, though.

Why did Standard Motor Products discontinue this? Well, to be honest I'm surprised they made it for so long. This particular vacuum control had very limited applications. For Corvette it was limited to 1964-67 with SHP small block. The only other applications I can find were some 1964-67 passenger cars with SHP small block, 1963-64 HP 409, and a few 1973 applications. Plus, it was Chevrolet-only and not used for other GM cars. This kind of field of application does not bode well for a "continued manufacturing interest".

Believe there still are some vendors selling VAC units stamped "MS 236-16", but they do not check out when tested with a Mityvac. I would not buy another one sight unseen, not that they are all that expensive, but it's no fun sending them back all the time either. If you buy from a private seller, make sure it is conditional upon passing a specs test.

Well, It wasn't me. I do have 2 on the shelf and I'm 73 years old. Figure that will be enough to hold me. I'm not selfish. The last one I got was from GMPartsdirect, and I recall someone on this thread asked me to confirm where I got it and did they have any more, HMmmmmm.

It was not me. This particular vacuum control is not one that has any particular interest for me. Since I don't sell parts, I obviously also have no interest in acquiring a supply to re-sell.

                        Cliff,

I found these part numbers for a B28: GM 88924985, Standard Motor products VC177, AC Delco D1312c, Borg Warner V329, Niehoff DR-305, Echlin VC1810

GMpartsgiant.com says they have the 88924985 in stock, but if they do, they are the only one. Everywhere else I looked, they are out of stock. I found a B26 for my L-79 a few months ago, but they are more common at the moment, it was an Airtex/Wells part. Maybe they make the B28 as well, but I can't find the invoice to tell you where I bought it (figures, right). Maybe someone sent you a PM by now saying they have one for sale. Good luck!

                        Mike

                          Mike:

Thanks for the useful information. GMpartsgiant.com does indicate they have some in stock, so I ordered one. I also found one available at Chicago Corvette and ordered one. I, like you, could not locate one at any other normal source. I will soon find out if either test to specifications or not and will let you know what I receive. It appears that, soon, if not already, this is going to be an extremely hard to find part.
                          Thank you for your input.

Cliff, If you and others are having your car judged then Don Baker is the answer as mentioned above. His 201 VA is right on the money.

I once made a major good in the 80's and stocked up on the service replacement from Chevy. I had a ton of the B1 VA's and they were not worth a crap. John

Cliff, I've talked with Don Baker and he is very picky on his VA unit. I once had a repro from one of the major parts suppliers, it ruptured it's diaphram after 6 months without warning. An NOS or Don's would be a wise choice.
