I'm wondering why a person can not advertise parts on this forum yet people are allowed to hawk their books? I see nothing technical about a book about one persons fantasies. Could one of the powers to be answer this for me?
    Thanks

    Re: Advertising

Terry, the old argument was that we are a "Society" and our "Society" has an outlet for the sale of parts ie The Driveline. A lot of expense and time goes into publishing The Driveline and a majority of the membership did not participate "online". Since parts and cars can be scarce and rare any online listing would benefit those online and hurt those offline. Not sure how book selling fits in, but I would imagine those on and off would have the same opportunity since they can print more books.

Now I have never taken a position either way so members please don't flame me, I am just restating the past positions. Eric

I'm new member so I'm not trying to ruffle anyone feathers but I'm curious...How long ago was that decided? If it was some time ago could it be revisited? Online usage might be much higher now than when it was decided. My own personal opinion is looking at the classifieds for parts in printed format seem antiquated. I use the digital version of Driveline more that printed.

I know someone also mentioned an orphan parts online listing. I have a few engine blocks that I would love to reunite with their cars but listing them in Driveline seems like a waste of time. If these VIN derivatives were listed in such a way that Google or other search engines could find them it could make the reunion of block and car even more possible.

With a forum such as this, you will find no Google results. The crawler cannot penetrate the password

            Re: Advertising

Mike, the NCRS membership roster is rather small when compared to how many Corvettes exist in the world. There are many outlets that would gain more clicks then the TDB. Not to mention the current owners may either think they have a matching numbers car or not care. A creative way to get your info on the board is to post a "hey does this pad stamp look real?" with a picture and the vin... bingo its on the board. (but as Dick states not on google)

I disagree, Mike, if they're Corvette blocks. Occaisionally you will see someone list blocks on this forum. They will either list the blocks or state that they have them. No price or discussion, just a notifcation. For me, this is a service, not an advertisement and as long as it only occurs every once in a while, I think you'll find most of the forum and the administrators tolerant. This forum is to help us restore our cars and we all should be willing to help a restorer get the most difficult part of their project...their original block.

                Eric
I understand the position of the driveline, even though some parts of the country get it way before others do. I just think that if we can't advertise parts we should not be able to advertise anything for sale! As stated here before "rules are rules" and it seems that some rules are enforced to the point that a member is banned from this forum and others are not. Are some rules ok to break and others are not? I'm just trying to get some clearity here.
                Thanks

I agree 100% clarity is alway welcomed. Nothing like having the impression of different rule books for different members. I personally would like to make it manditory to publish asking prices for parts in The Driveline. Eric

it is posted pretty quickly after the hard copy is mailed, if not before.

Maybe I worded it wrong, a current virtual Driveline that can be posted to by members. I belong to another organization that already does it, not without a charge, but nevertheless it is instantly available to members.

The search is really cool too. Say you need some 461 heads. It shows you a thumbnail of the page in all issues that are online. One click your there.
