*** Engine Components Date Code Qusetion ***

Is it possible/common for engine components to have a casted date code that is just a couple of days before the final assembly date of the engine??? Example: heads, water pump, manifolds, etc. Thanks.

    Blair,

yes it is possible. My 67 has both heads cast just 2 days before assy date. I do not know how common, but it does happen. Others on here maybe able to chime in on the issue also.

Very possible and even somewhat common for components that were part of the engine plant manufactured assembly, especially for small blocks. Somewhat less common for big blocks.

Thank - you, gentlemen, for the replies - much appreciated. The reason why I ask this question is my '68 L36 (T0921IQ on the pad) has 215 heads with H 2 7 (driver's side) and I 19 7 (passenger side) for date codes. I often wondered if the passenger side was original/correct with it being cast 2 days before the final assembly of the engine. Would like to hear of more examples of such cases. I am a numbers guy - I may be able to sleep better tonight. LOL. This has bothered me for years. Thanks again. BK

            Here are a few of my other date codes for my early model '68 (s/n 5338) Build date of D 24 (trim tag): Engine pad - T0921IQ 18S405338. Turbo 400 - Date code:68L263 -68 model year, L - 427, 263 - 263RD day of year (Sept.19/1967). Rear Axle #: 1 AW 11 15 67 W (3.08 ratio). Alternator - 1100693 (37 amp) date code: 7 H 67. Starter - 1107365 date code: 7 H 21. Water pump - 3856284 date code: H 23 7. Quadrajet carb - 7028216 FF date code: 2367 (236 day of 1967 -Aug.23/1967). Intake manifold - 3919849 casting date: 8 15 67. Distributor - 1111293 casting date:H 28 7. Voltage regulator - 1119515 date code 7 H. Heads - 3917215 date code: H 2 7 & I 19 7 (LH & RH). Exhaust manifolds - 3880827 (date code - H 2 7) & 3880828 (date code - H 1 7). Jack (date code 7 G)

Does a power steering pump have a date code on it. I know mine is an incorrect unit with a dented case. I am trying to locate a correct pump and need to know what I am looking for. Thank -you. Have a great evening. BK

On original un molested engines (those with their original parts) its more common than not. 427 or 327.

My 62 had the engine block cast on Friday and assembled on Tuesday. My 66 had the engine cast on Monday and assembled the that Friday. Most originals I have seen are like that.
