Re: 1963 340 hp air cleaner
When/if you get one, let us know what you find. My original base has lost all of it's chrome inside - just peeled off early on. When I noticed it, back in 63/64, I peeled it off mostly by hand as I didn't want my engine to digest it. I'm sure it did get some, but what didn't kill it seems to have made it stronger - never been apart in 50 years. I would be expecting the repro to be of lighter gauge metal.

Re: 1963 340 hp air cleaner
Ben, I have a repro air cleaner base on my 63/340 car and the original lid, its the way I brought it. I Think the chrome maybe a little to nice as compared to the original assy. The factory flash chrome process was always a terrible looking job. however I prefer the repro chroming job. I did buy and new lid to complete the look of the base. And as JD says the silk screening is nothing like the originals.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

The main difference between the repro and original is the lid. It has 2 problems. The crimp of the center hole is not the same as original. Also the angle of the rise as you come away from the center hole is not the same.
Some judges have a little cardboard triangle that they lay on the top to detect the angle.
I have not heard any complaints about the silk screening. Just make sure what's correct for your car - red or black.
As always original is best. I have sent originals to Paragon and had them replate an re-screen my original lid.Steve Gansky
