C4 Seat Release Latch and Bezel

Looking to see what is the correct color for a seat release latch and the bezel that sits behind the headrest for a 1995 red standard seats. Should these plastic items be red like the seat color or black. I know the sports seats have them the same color of the seats, but I'm not sure about the standard seats.

Over the weekend I saw a 1994 red on red with basic seats and the seat release latch and the bezel were black. According to the owner, the car only had 6,000 and was a musem car. The black bezel and release latch on the red seats just did not look right. I'm redoing a set of red standard seats and I want to make sure I apply the correct color on these items.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Ed,

It may not look right, but black is the way to go.

I have personal experience with these. However, according to the information I have, the 94-95 seat back release handle and bezel were interior colored. In fact, both pieces were once available from GM in SERVICE for each of the available interior colors. It's a little hard to believe that they were offered in SERVICE in colors but all PRODUCTION-installed originals were black.

Joe, just want to make sure I understand you correctly. The factory production was black and the dealer in-service sold and replaced them in the interior color? In other words, if I want to replace mine when recovering my seats and I want them to be NCRS correct, they should be black, even though my standard seats are red?

        Thanks,

          Ed,

You are correct - if you look at magzine photos when the cars came out in 94 and 95, the seat bezels are black.

The seat release plastic bezel broke on my drivers seat many years ago on my original owner 96 LT4. Have not replaced it fearing a new one would break as well. Are the replacements made better than the originals?

Thanks for all the help guys. I just called Al Knocks and told them to make the latch and bezel black. He had already put in a red latch, but Dale is replacing it with a black ones.

Joe: Like always you are right on point. Thanks for the response and guiding me correctly.

Arland: Thanks for the quick response, I really appreciate it.

Jim: I have used the black replacement ones and they hold up well.

Tom: Thanks for the photo. I guess it going to take me getting use to that look.

Tom, I can't see the color of the screws attaching the black bezel, but are they black?

I don't know if they are made any better. I doubt it, though. They are still of the original part number. The only one still available is the black----GM #10262345.

It absolutely amazes me that all the originals used in PRODUCTION were black while those available in SERVICE were of all the original interior colors. It's usually the opposite (i.e. colored used in PRODUCTION with only black available in SERVICE). This has just got to be the only time this EVER happened in the history of GM.

Joe, I agree, that's why I was so puzzled about this issue.

The 94-96 TIMJG says on p.38 that tan interiors have tan seat release buttons, the other interiors have black.

                            Richard,

I can assure you that the latches and bezels in my tan interior 94 were indeed black regardless of what the TIMJG says. When I had the car judged there was no deduction taken for the color of the latches and bezels - as it should be.

Arland, I was just reporting what theTIMJG states. As we know, there are a number of corrections to be made in the next edition of the 94-96 manual. Perhaps someone can chime in on whether this is one of the possible corrections.
