    Were Roads here salted?

I recently purchased a 67 Coupe L-36 from the third owner. He is the past president of Good Year Tire and Rubber. During his career he worked at the tire plant in Union City TN, and Lawton Ok. My car saw most of its daily driving in the early 70's in these two towns. Does anyone know if this area gets salted down roads in the winter? The frame on my car is one of an original 64K mile car with lots of oil, grease, crud and surface rust. I have done the normal picking and hammering looking for weak spots, but so far have found none. However, until the body comes off the frame I will not be comfortable with what the entire frame looks like. Until that time I would like to satisfy my curiousity regarding the roads when the car was just a daily driver.
    Thanks,

    Lawrence

    Lawrence,

Lived in Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska during the 70's. Salt was used for icy conditions in Oklahoma City. Don't know about the Lawton area.

Somewhere in the mid to late 70's some of the States started using the green slime (whatever it was) stuff. Then some of the States outlawed studded snow tires.

Union City is near the southern tip of the "rust belt". I'd be very surprised if they did'nt treat thier roads with salt during ice and snow events.

I live here in Omaha, NE. They definitely salt the roads in the past and in the present. I got up early today to come into the office for a while and the state of Nebraska had already been out spraying the calcium chloride (salt) brine solution on the bridge decks again this morning at 05:30. They’ve done it at least 3 different times this week & last week and we haven’t seen a drop of moisture. I know it is to prevent these surfaces from forming frost due to the temp changes... but it’s too early. As soon as our over sensitive weather guessers forecast the first potential snow they will cover the major city intersections with granulized calcium Chloride (salt) and sand. I hate it! I wish Nebraska would do as Colorado does or used to do and just put down sand.

I corresponded with a gentleman that has lived in Lawton Ok for 60 years and he reports little to no salt on the roads there seeing they only have 1-2 snows a year. Since the City is in Southwest OK not surprised but Union City is probably a different story.
