I would like to install a corvette central N11 system on my 63. my understanding is that that there system has pretty much has the correct bends and looks about as close as it gets to factory. It welds at front of muffler and tool box bends as my early car has the tool box storage. So I Realize that it was not a option for 63, The system is just missing a baffle and looks and configures like the normal systems installed in 63. Will there be a problem with the operations judging? Thanks for your opinions Ed

Re: 63 exhaust system judging question
Judges discretion if the noise level is "unusual" for a '63. The question is why take the risk if you are interested in the judging score?Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: 63 exhaust system judging question
Ed,
The sound is noticably different. I got comments about the CC bends and all at the chapter meet and the judges say it's not that close to factory. I also had some problems with one pipe being 1"' too long which required cutting and welding because I didn't have time to get a replacement. Some people get perfect fits, others are not so lucky. Do they even make one for early 63s that will clear the tool box? There is also Gardners whose require fitting up and then welding.
It's like the winshield problem; they are not quite right.

Re: 63 exhaust system judging question
Edward. The off road exhaust aka N11 (I think) that Chevy sold over the counter will not fit a 63 that has the tool boxes hanging down. Been there.
For many years I had a set of NOS off road exhaust that I had planned on putting on my Feb/Mar 63. But we found out it wouldn't fit.
My hearing is nothing to brag about but I can tell you that t he off road is easily twice as loud.
So therefore expect a major hit in judging. If you are chasing the points then forget it.
My 63 has Allen's exhaust. Fit 100% perfect.
Another story. The exhaust was one of the last things to go on my 63 before it was trucked 750 miles to Marlborough a few years ago. Well when my pal Cardina called and said he had big troubles because the off road crap wouldn't fit we were in a panic and ordered the Allen's exhaust second day air. Tru story. JD- Top

I have done some OJing for operation checks and generally the judges are looking for leaks in the exhaust systems.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: 63 exhaust system judging question
Thanks Alan. I knew there would be more than one configuration and plating issue. I will take a peak at my CC front pipe I have know Just to see if they made any changes, I am just curious.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: 63 exhaust system judging question
Ed,
The sound is nice. It's too bad we didn't make the comparison at the chapter meet. I have the carbon steel pipes and wipe them down occasionaly with CRC350. As Alan and the other guys say they'll get you on the configuration, the CC clamps, etc. I've heard good things about Gardeners but have never see them.
But the sound is cool, so...

Re: 63 exhaust system judging question
Ed,
I bought the CC N11 welded system for my L84 1963 coupe. It was built on 10/16/1962 and had the tool boxes under the seats. The 2 1/2" system went in in about three hours by myself. Very easy and full clearance around the tool boxes. Other than having to raise the rearmost exhaust hanger on the rear driver's side to make the exhaust tips exit the valance the same, the system went in very easy. Make sure you have the correct 63 center hanger and rear 63-only exhaust shields at the rear valence. I loved the "crisp" expat note from the system particularly hen you get on it.- Top

Re: 63 exhaust system judging question
Well I like what you guys all say, as for the judging end of it I will keep the regular mufflers and and use them for judging and just buy a set of N11 mufflers I just think the SHP motors need a little more sound to keep in tune with what a corvette is ment to sound like.
