I had a local glass installer put the windshield in my 67 coupe. We used the orginal glass and I supplied the gasket which I bought from ZIP Products. The installer said that it did not need any type of sealer. Aftert the glass was installed I did a water test and the windshield leaked very badly between the body and the gasket and the glass and the gasket.
I see the windshield installation procedure in the 67 Service Manual recommends a bead of 3M 1170 sealer on the body before installing the glass and two more beads on the outside after the glass is in. It also recommends sealer between the glass and the gasket. When I removed the glass there was a grayish/light brown sealer all around the windshield and on the back of the trim. It was medium to heay bodied non-hardening type material.
Does anybody know what today's equivalnent is to the 3M 1170 or product to use in it's place and what to use between the glass and the gasket?
