1972 Corvette vs 1972 Chevelle LS-5, 454 Valve Covers, Different or the same?

I am trying to determine if the valve covers on a 1972 Corvette with an LS-5 has the same valve covers as a 1972 Chevelle with an LS-5.

Personally, I am under the impression that they look the same, but the Chevelle covers do not have the drippers.

Can any of you guys clear this up for me? I have a Chevelle guy up my ****.

Joe, How are you doing today?

    Thanks

When it comes to big block valve covers there were more slightly different configurations than you can imagine. Some were never even available in SERVICE. Often the difference was only the location of a bracket, the exact configuration of a bracket, a wire clip, an indention, etc., etc., etc.

All I can tell you is that the SERVICE valve covers for the 1972 Chevelle LS-5 application and the 1972 Corvette LS-5 application were the same after 1973----GM #338261, lh, and GM #331262, rh. However, that does not necessarily mean that the original valve covers were the same. That's because GMSPO did a lot of consolidation on these big block valve covers, probably because they weren't going to "buy in" to the SERVICE requirement necessity of the plethora of configurations used in PRODUCTION.

The original 1972 Corvette LS-5 valve covers were GM #6263783, lh, and GM #6272150, rh. Unfortunately, I don't have the part numbers of the original 1972 Chevelle LS-5 covers. Maybe some Chevelle guys do, though. They won't be found on the valve covers, themselves as GM stamped steel valve covers virtually never have part numbers emplaced upon them.

can't tell you exactly ewhat the differences are but for the last few years I've been searching for a set of '72 LS-5 covers. Just about impossible to find in the correct configuration unless you drop the $400 at Cranes. I ended up making an experement/compromise.

I found a set of '72 big block covers. They have the exact spark plug retainers but there are two major differences. No drippers and there are two small flat spots on the inboard edges of the covers, which I assume are for different accessories used for different applications. I already had a set of marine covers with drippers. I ground out the spot welds from the top and then spot welded them into the new covers I got. Probably won't pass judging 100% but they're pretty close. If you're looking for pics I'll find or take some. Have fun!!

The valve covers pictured are not the same as 1972 Corvette LS-5. They may be correct for 1972 Chevelle with LS-5 but I doubt it.
