54 Steering Box Attachement to Frame

I'm in the process of attaching the steering box to the frame and I'm hoping someone can tell me if the shim/bracket in the photo is correct. I pointed to it with an arrow. If it is correct for the car is it in the correct location? It appears to be a shim to me and I'm wondering if someone before me put it in the wrong place. I'm wondering if it belongs between the steering box and the frame. The photo was taken before disassembly.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Mine (#814) does not have that piece in that location and I do not see it on the other side of the frame between the box and the frame, either.

3666 and 3803 did not have that bracket on the inside of the frame....
I would take it off - see if there is damage under it - hole elongated?

That looks like a motor mount shim for a BB Sting Ray. I'd bet a goodly sum my #3300 '54 doesn't have that piece.

Edit: I check #3300. Ain't no such thing on it.

Here's a picture from #2637. As others have pointed out, no such bracket/shim on my car. The two rivets you see secure a bracket inside the frame rail that keeps the rail from collapsing when the steering box bolts are tightened. An elongated hole exists but is hidden behind the pitman arm in this photo (the hole and rivets are both visible on your picture). Tim

Thanks to each of you for checking your cars and responding to my inquiry. Maybe someone thought it would make a good washer for the nuts. I thought it seemed out of place. Thanks again.

              Jim, BINGO!!!! Very similar.

That is not a 54 piece.

Eric, I judge 53-55 for a number years, no such part ever observed on any of the corvettes presented to me.
